What is GridPrint?
GridPrint is a free browser tool that takes any image and splits it into tiles you can print on a standard home printer, then assemble into a large poster, stencil, pattern, or sign. You set the exact physical size you want, and GridPrint handles the rest.
Is GridPrint really free?
Yes, completely free. No hidden fees, no watermarks, no premium tier. GridPrint is a free project built as a community tool.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All image processing happens locally in your browser. Your files never leave your device. There are no accounts, no cloud storage, and no data collection of your images.
What image formats are supported?
GridPrint supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, and TIFF — essentially any format your browser can display. For best results with large prints, use the highest resolution source image you have.
What paper sizes can I use?
GridPrint supports A4, A3, Letter, Legal, and Tabloid paper sizes. You can switch between metric (mm/cm) and imperial (inches) units. The tool automatically calculates how many pages you need based on your target size and chosen paper.
Can I use GridPrint offline?
Yes. Once you've loaded the page, GridPrint works entirely offline. It's a Progressive Web App (PWA) that you can install on your device for quick access without an internet connection.
How do I get the exact size I need?
Enter your target dimensions in the size panel — for example, 90 x 60 cm for a large poster. GridPrint calculates exactly how many pages are needed and generates a PDF with alignment marks, page numbers, and an assembly guide to help you piece it together.
Why do my prints not match the expected size?
Make sure "Fit to page" or "Scale to fit" is turned off in your printer settings. Print at 100% scale (actual size). GridPrint adds crop marks and overlap areas to help you align pages — follow the assembly guide included in the PDF.
How do I print a poster across multiple pages?
Upload your image, then either set the finished size you want or how many pages wide it should be. GridPrint automatically splits it into a grid of A4 or Letter tiles — one per sheet — and generates a single PDF. Print every page at 100% scale on your home printer, trim the overlap, and tape or glue the sheets together using the included alignment marks and assembly guide.
Can I print on a regular home printer?
Yes — GridPrint is built for standard home and office printers. Any inkjet or laser printer that handles A4 or Letter paper works; GridPrint splits your design across as many sheets as it needs, so you are never limited by page size. The same goes for stencils and tattoo stencils: print the tiles, line them up with the alignment marks, and assemble the full-size design.
Which format prints best — PNG, JPG, or PDF?
Use PNG for line art, text, logos, and stencils — it is lossless and keeps edges crisp. JPG is fine for photographs and keeps file sizes small. Whatever you upload, GridPrint outputs a print-ready PDF with your pages laid out and marked for assembly. For the sharpest result, always start from the highest-resolution source you have.
What DPI or resolution do I need for a sharp print?
It depends on viewing distance. For things you look at up close — stencils, patterns, fine art — aim for about 300 DPI. For big posters viewed from a few steps away, 150 DPI is plenty. GridPrint warns you if your source image is too low-resolution for the size you have chosen, so you can scale down or pick a sharper file before printing.
